Department (NID)
The National Investigation
Department (NID) is Nepal's primary intelligence agency tasked with gathering
crucial information related to public security, economic crimes, corruption,
terrorism (both domestic and cross-border), money laundering, narcotics, and
human trafficking. Functioning under the Office of the Prime Minister and
Council of Ministers, NID plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation's
interests. It operates as one of Nepal's four major security agencies,
alongside the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army. Not to be
confused with entities like the Central Investigation Bureau (a Nepal Police
branch) or the Directorate of Military Intelligence (a Nepal Army branch), NID
focuses on a broad spectrum of intelligence and investigative activities
critical for maintaining the country's security and stability. The
Public Service Commission (PSC) of Nepal, established on June 15, 1951, is a
crucial constitutional body responsible for selecting qualified candidates for
government civil service positions. Operating as an independent entity, it
functions under the oversight of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council
of Ministers. The PSC comprises an acting Chairman and members, appointed by
the President upon the recommendation of the constitutional council. Notably,
50% of these members are drawn from civil servants with over 20 years of
government service.
